Title: Noncommutative geometry, the spectral action, and quantum field theory
Speaker: Teun van Nuland (TU Delft)
A noncommutative geometry (or, spectral triple) is a generalisation of a Riemannian spin manifold by operator algebraic language, which is becoming more and more prominent in physics. By using a simple functional called the spectral action one can retrieve physical information from a noncommutative geometry, and thus describe gravity, the standard model of particle physics, and physics beyond. In this talk, I hope to give you a glimpse of the interesting geometry, algebra, and analysis involved, especially when trying to bring this framework closer to quantum field theory.
